Six Kids and a Stuffed Cat
Author
Gary Paulsen
Review
Due to a weather warning, six boys wind up taking shelter in the school restroom until the "all clear" is called. The boys are very different and would probably never be seen together as friends but since they are "trapped" together - they get to know one another and become friends. This book is a quick read and a good way to talk to kids about accepting peers and not judging others without taking the time to get to know them first. The book includes a written play format to use as an activity.

Save Me Kurt Cobain
Author
Jenny Manzer
Review
I've reviewed this already for the CPL blog, but I still highly recommend it to just about anyone. The premise--a fifteen-year-old girl is convinced that '90s rock icon, Kurt Cobain, is both still alive, and her real father--is utterly ridiculous. However, the way Manzer creates this character and this universe makes it seem believable, and terribly sympathetic. Protagonist Nico isn't looking for a rock star connection, but for a sense of family and closure on a mystery that was left unsolved. It's addicting, and a very fast read.

Under The Egg
Author
Laura Marx Fitzgerald
Review
Theo is thirteen and when her Grandfather dies in an accident, she is faced with taking care of her mother who cannot work. Right before he passes away, Theo's grandfather tells her to look under the egg and the to find the treasure. And so the mystery begins for Theo who meets a new friend- Bohdi, the daughter of celebrities who comes from a very different background than Theo. The story takes place in New York and the girls spend a lot of time doing research in the Metropolitan Museum of Art after they discover that there is a famous looking painting in Theo's grandfather's art studio. The characters are interesting and the reader will certainly learn a lot about artists from the Renaissance period. It makes the reader want to visit the Met Gallery and see what is being described !
