Lost Stars

After months of being told that this story was much more than a doomed romance in space, I finally finished it. I'm only sorry it took me so long to take all those glowing recommendations seriously. Claudia Gray has a way of taking old, worn clich├ęs and turning them into something wonderful, and that's the case with this new addition to the Star Wars literary canon. Even if you don't love Star Wars, you will love this book. Recommended to everyone.

This is a futuristic dystopia with none of the trappings I've come to associate with the genre--that's a good thing. It's hopeful, bright, exciting, and action-packed without being violent or depressing.

It's also very telly, which is unfortunate. The author feels the need to over-explain the same points over and over, and took a long time getting to the end of the mystery. I grew impatient with it towards the end, although I was still heavily invested in the story.

So this is a rare case in which I actually like the movie better, which I probably should not have watched first.

Cute little chili cookbook. Recipes from the International Chili Society winners. Some of the recipes are from celebrities. Each recipe has a little history of the winner and then the recipe. Disappointed there were no pictures in the book. I seeing how my food should look like. I did try two recipes, The Lou Holt's Chili because I am a Norte Dame fan. And the Joe Theismann's Chili. Both were good and I will make them again.
